In Alderholt there is a Co-Op with a sub post office within.
The nearest town for shopping is Fordingbridge which has a wide range of shops including a Co-Op, Tesco Express, a barber, hairdresser and DIY shops
The Internet And Broadband
Broadband is available in Damerham (the exchange is Rockbourne, BT code STROCKB).
As a guide, some areas in the village now have access to SuperFast Broadband (BT call it infinity, other providers may call it FTTC or Fibre To The Cabinet). Speeds vary depending on distance from the cabinet, or in the case of ADSL or normal Broadband, distance from the exchange - mostly Rockbourne although some properties in the South of the Parish are served from Cranborne.
You can check availability for your own telephone line at the BT wholesale web site:
BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker
There is also now a wireless internet service available from Cranborne. This service is based on a main fibre connection linked across the area by wireless transmitters. At the time of writing, properties to the North of Damerham may be in the line of sight for this service but there are plans to expand this network as the oportunity for more transmitters comes up. Here is a brief (but better) description of what they do and how to contact them:
Morion Broadband is a local provider of superfast broadband over a wireless network. The hub at Cranborne is fed by a fibre connection which then delivers wireless broadband via a network of transmitters which have recently expanded to include coverage towards the parish of Damerham. Connection can be achieved where there is a direct line of sight from your property to a Morion transmitter. North End Damerham currently falls within the range of Morion's Blagdon Hill transmitter - so properties in this area are most likely to make a connection currently. Residential and Business packages are available offering download speeds from 10MB to 30MB. For more information please visit our website: www.morionbroadband.com or further inquiries to Kate Smith on 0800 756 3891.
Waste Collection/Disposal, Recycling Centre
Household rubbish is collected on Thursdays in most of the village, although it is Monday for Lopshill, Lower Daggons, a couple of South End properties, The Common and Boulsbury
Recycling bags (paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles etc.) are collected on the same day.
A garden waste collection scheme is also available, for details see:
http://www.newforest.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6567
Cardboard, paper, and plastic should be placed in the clear recycling bags which are supplied by NFDC.
There are paper and glass recycling containers in the lay-by on the road between Damerham and Sandleheath and also in the car park in Fordingbridge (behind the Co-Op).
