Need Help?
A panoramic view of Damerham taken from the church tower

We have put some notes together on this page to help you to download and view files and what to do if you have problems sending us an email.

Downloading Files

There are several files on this website that you can download to view on your own computer or to print.

What happens when you click on a file to download it depends on which web browser you use, and whether or not your computer has a viewer installed for the type of file you click on. These notes may help you in downloading files and viewing them.

Generally if you click on a file link with your left mouse button Internet Explorer will attempt to open the file, other browsers may try to save it. If you want to save the file to your own computer it is usually better to click the link with the right mouse button.

Please respect the copyright in these files, you may download them and use them for your own personal use only.

File Types

The types of file you can download are:

Picture files e.g. the maps of the walks in Damerham and the pictures in the Archive.

To download a picture right click on the picture and select the appropriate option from the context menu that appears (see table below).

These files are in 'jpeg' format and all computers have an application installed to read these files.

Document files e.g some issues of the Parish Pump.

To download a document file right click on the link and select the appropriate option from the context menu that appears (see table below).

These files are in Microsoft Word 97 format and can be read by all versions of Word from 97 onwards and by Wordpad (which comes with Windows).

They can also be opened by many other word processors such as OpenOffice.org. If you have nothing on your computer to view these files you can download a free Word Document Viewer (Windows computers only) from Microsoft here.

PDF (Portable Document Format) files e.g. some issues of the Parish Pump and the cricket fixtures list.

To download a pdf file right click on the link and select the appropriate option from the context menu that appears (see table below).

You may have a viewer for this type of file on your computer, if not you can download free viewers from Foxit Software (a small and fast viewer for pdf files) or Adobe (a somewhat larger viewer).

Sending Emails To Links On The Website

If you click on an email link and get the following message:

“Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed.”

It means that your computer is not sure which email program to use to send the email.

To correct this in Outlook Express you need to go to Tools -> Options, select the General tab and towards the bottom you will see a button relating to making Outlook Express the default email application. Click on the button to resolve the issue.

Other email programs will have a similar option, you may need to read the help file to find it - look for “Default Email Client” in the help.
